Should the federal government get into the car insurance business?

<< Auto Insurance Quotes - Compare and Save Car insurance, motor, home, business & house  When will I need to buy additional business insurance for my car? >>

The automobile insurance companies are making billions off of us.

Shouldn’t the federal government step in and compete against them for our business?

After all we are required by law to have insurance.

Isn’t it wrong for these companies to actually make a profit off of a product they are selling? Shouldn’t the federal government put a stop to this profiteering?

when i was 18 i got a ticket for going 43 in a 35. my insurance went up $4,600 a year (on top of what i already paid).

its absurd. its rape. i’m mad as hell and i’m not gonna take it anymore

There is no reason for them to.

People can get coverage. Not everyone can get health insurance coverage.

Apparently you do not understand what the health insurance reform debate is all about.

I’m a Libertarian and my answer in NO. The government has no business in the established private sectors.

Of course…we need government to control all facets of our lives. We, as average human beings, are to stupid and irresponsible to make decisions for ourselves. Give the government control so they can save us from ourselves.

Just about everything that the federal government does, it does it in a manner that is slower, clumsier, less efficient, and more expensive than private industry. But there are a few things that it just makes sense to have centralized – law enforcement, a court system, defense, for example. But in general, we are better off if the feds stay out of anything that the private sector can do better.

Hell no, can you imagine how long it would take to process a claim. Why do so many people demonize those that make money? I have never been employed by a poor person. If my company makes money, I continue to reap the rewards of that.

Most states already require people have Auto insurance… that did nothing to "bring costs down" or "increase the availability"… There is nothing that government intrusion can’t screw up beyond recognition.

Hey PJ… not everyone can afford Auto insurance either… it like health insurance is available to anybody that can afford it… and while you may cite "pre-existing conditions" ect… that is like people with bad driving records… of course it is going to cost more to get it, but it CAN be obtained. While I wouldn’t mid seeing a little more regulation on the insurance industry, the health care bill being presented goes beyond rational thought.

Why not let government control every aspect of our lives. Maybe they should regulate haircuts too. (sarcasm)

Actually we should eliminate car insurance. Back in the 70’s you can legally drive without car insurance.
