I backed into a car under 3mph and there was costmetic damage on the other party’s bumper, since it is minimal, I don’t think it would be worth the cost of increased insurance for something so little. If the other driver will let you do that, then go for it. If the cost is below your deductible, it is probably better to go that way. Use a shop that they recommend in writing though, dont use your own place, because if they are not happy with the work they could sue you.

You can pay for the damage yourself, without filing a claim on your insurance, it will likely raise your premium and overall rates. I believe the rule is if less than $250.00 you are not required to report to police, check your local/state laws to be sure.

I did it years ago to keep the thing off my record. The damage was about $500. For me it was worth it.
